Hello! I'm Stephanie, a 25-year-old wanderlust, writer and mermaid at heart.

S☀S is where I blog about my life, my travels and healthy, beautiful food. Magical things happen when you're snacking on sunshine — let me show you!

My name is Stephanie. It’s nice to meet you ❤

I’m a 25-year-old magazine journalist, holistic nutrition student, runner & lover of beautiful food. I have a penchant for healthy cooking, nature hikes and foreign languages. I started this blog in 2009 after a trip to Santorini inspired me to adopt a Mediterranean approach to diet and lifestyle. Fast-forward four years and three continents and S☀S has grown to become a place where I curate and share my favorite recipes, workouts and adventures.

You can expect to find recipes based on my interpretation of some of the healthiest cuisines in the world: the luscious oils of the sun-soaked Mediterranean and the preventative approach to holistic living I so admired in Asia. I cook with the freshest produce I can find; nutty whole grains; healthy fats and I get most of my protein from legumes, soy and the occasional seafood treat. This isn’t a ‘diet’ blog. I believe that an active lifestyle featuring daily exercise and fresh, beautiful meals is the healthiest way to be.

I love getting to know the blogger behind the blog, so you can also expect to find posts about my daily adventures abroad and in Boston, where I’m currently living with my boyfriend R, little Luna the bengal/tabby, and Triton & Archimedes the hermit crabs. Our apartment can only be described as a Disney greenhouse — it’s bursting with fresh flowers and happy creatures!

When I’m not studying, I’m busy working at a tea company, where I love to host events (read: tea parties) and write about the magical health benefits of tea. I’m known as the Matcha Mermaid because of my love for the magical green stuff ^~ Want to learn more? I teach a tea class every week, so if you’re living in Boston and would like to attend, do shoot me a message!

I love: fairytales, pearls, hounds and champagne truffles. I also love riding bareback, and the way silvery sand feels between your toes. I make ✰wishes✰ at every opportunity. I find squawky seagulls charming, the ocean inspiring, and seashells magical.

I would live in a sandcastle if I could.

My last name means “of the sea,” and I’ve always been drawn to the tide. When I was a little girl I liked to think that my ancestors were mermaids.

More, in a nutshell:

  • I am at my happiest by the ocean or in the saddle.
  • I am an animal lover, but absolutely 100% a “dog person.”
  • I think God and Buddha are best buds.
  • I love Matcha; a powdered green Japanese tea. I have 2-3 a day and never get sick!
  • If I had to eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be grapes.
  • Pearls are my favorite. I love them to excess.
  • I love matcha lattes, yoohoos and champagne the best
  • I have a delicious, ridiculous tea addiction collection.
  • I have a lucky knack for finding four-leaf clovers
  • I am obsessed with writing lists.
  • Anemones are my favorite flowers. Peonies are a close second.
  • My decorating style is half art gallery, half greenhouse
  • I’d rather run five miles than do five burpees :\
  • My favorite colours are grey, turquoise and sparkle (25-going-on-12)
  • Rose gold. Rose gold. Rose gold.
  • I collect shells, feathers and ribbons and weave dreamcatchers ☽
  • I feel “unfinished” without french polish on my toes
  • I have way too many purses. And pairs of shoes.
  • I can quote “The Princess Bride” opening-to-credit
  • I loved succulents before they were cool ^~

Still by far my favorite treat. They’re basically super watery chocolate milk but something magical happens in those bottles that turns them into liquid delicious.

ps- blogging/writing in the evening with a glass of bubbly makes for very creative posts, bahaha.

Too cool about your mom! My favorite place for a quick bite is Dustins (ahaha. I grew up with it, my blood is part bbq.) Other than that I’m a big fan of Olive Garden and the Dancing Avocado Kitchen :)
Cheers to blogging with a glass of indulgence!

I am sooo happy you started a blog! You are just fantastic! My older sister was getting sick on a regular basis and no family doc or specialist could figure out what was wrong. She went to see a holistic doc and for the past year she claims she has never felt better! I keep “meaning” to go but have not for some reason. It is DEF something I am interested in and want to learn about to carve it into my eating habits! I am so happy you explain it the way you do! I will be reading more and more for sure!

    • S☀S says:

You are a delight Katie! That comment made me smile :) Thank you!!
I’m glad that your sister is doing so much better. Seeing a holistic doc changed my life, my career aspirations, everything!!
I hope to share everything I learn with you and all of my S☀S readers <3 I can't believe I waited this long to get started.

  • Oh my word! Where on Earth are you getting a college degree specifically for health magazine journalism!?

    Pearls are my favorite, too.

    • S☀S says:

Welcome to S☀S Hillary!! I’ve been a fan of your blog for ages.

How I wish it was health magazine journalism as the title of the degree!! I am in journalism, but they make you stream into TV, magazine or print. From there your electives give you your platform, and mine are all geared towards health and nutrition. They day I find a program titled “health magazine journalism” is the day I apply for a second degree!!! I’ll be sure to let you know if I find such a thing ;)

Glad I have a pearl buddy; they’re such beauties.

I just found your blog today and you seem like such a beautiful person :) Your blog really looks amazing considering it’s relatively new! I’ve been daydreaming about starting my own blog for some time now but I guess I just feel like I wouldn’t have enough time to blog, and I’m not sure if anyone would even read! ANYways, I think I’ll be back often :)

    • S☀S says:

Ahh you are the sweetest thing. Welcome to S☀S Andrea! I totally think you should start writing your own blog if you’re daydreaming about it. It’s a lovely way to unwind and keep track :D Look forward to having you stop by again!

    • S☀S says:

You are TOO sweet :D This totally reminded me of Will Ferrell in Step Brothers.
      YUP ^~

  • Kit-Kat says:

You sound so fun and magical to be with!
I believe in al things mythical (unicorns, pegasus, centaurars, fauns…. I have a deep love of Greek and Roman mythology). A love for hound dogs comes naturally with the mythology. So dainty, yet full of vigor and strength!
And I love horses! Bareback riding is like being one with the horse. It is so perfect, and blissfull! You absolutely MUST try riding on the beach (try riding on either a Freisian or an Andalucian. Either one of those two horses will take your breath away with their flowing strides!).
I hope to catch up with you even more! Love your blog!
    Kit-Kat (Katie)

    • S☀S says:

Aw Katie, how cute are you!! Thanks! It sounds like we have an awful lot in common. Andalusians are my favorite horse breed, isn’t that a funny coincidence? It sounds like you’ve ridden one before, too, which makes me so envious I could pop. Someday! (I’ll ride one on the beach, not pop, bahaha.)

Welcome to S☀S!! I hope to keep you coming back for more ;)
